Install on a server
One command on a server you rent or own. It installs everything creekX needs and starts it. Run it again later and it upgrades.
Choose a server
- Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, 64-bit, with an Intel or AMD processor.
- To try it: 2 processor cores, 8 GB of memory and 100 GB of disk.
- For several 24/7 channels: 4 cores and 16 GB, and more disk for your videos.
- Data each month matters most for 24/7 channels: one Full HD channel sends about 2.6 TB a month to each platform it plays on. Check your plan's allowance.
Any provider works. Choose a location near the people who will watch.
Install, step by step
-
Point a domain at the server (recommended)
In your domain's DNS settings, add an A record for a name such as
live, with the server's IP address as its value. creekX then gets an https certificate by itself. Going live from a browser needs https. No domain yet? Skip this; you can add one later. -
Connect to the server
Use SSH, as a user who can use
sudo. Your provider's control panel shows how; many have a "Console" button in the browser. -
Run the installer
curl -fsSL https://creekx.io/get.sh | sudo bashIt downloads creekX, checks the download is not damaged, and asks:
- your domain, for example
live.example.com(Enter to skip); - the owner's email, which you sign in with;
- the owner's password, 12 characters or more.
Prefer to give the answers up front? Put them after
bash -s --:curl -fsSL https://creekx.io/get.sh | sudo bash -s -- --domain live.example.com --email you@example.com - your domain, for example
-
Open the address it prints
Sign in with your email and password. Your 14-day free trial has started. Next: Quick start.
Ports to open
If your provider has its own firewall (often called a security group), open these:
| Port | For |
|---|---|
| 80, 443 (TCP) | The app and watching |
| 1935 (TCP) | OBS and streaming apps (RTMP) |
| 1936 (TCP) | OBS, encrypted (RTMPS), with a domain |
| 8554 (TCP) | Cameras and encoders sending RTSP |
| 8890 (UDP) | SRT encoders |
| 8189 (UDP, TCP) | Going live from a browser, and real-time watching |
| 9100–9199 (UDP) | Encoders sending MPEG-TS over UDP |
Add a domain later
Point the domain at the server (step 1 above), then on the server run:
sudo creekx domain live.example.com
https comes with it and is renewed by itself.
Upgrade to a newer version
Run the same install line again. Your settings, videos, licence and trial are kept. If the new version does not start, the previous one is put back by itself.
A server without internet
For closed networks, ask us for the offline bundle. It carries everything the installer would download, checks every file before using it, and asks nothing of the network. Copy it to the server, then:
sudo ./perpetua-VERSION-offline/install.sh --offline perpetua-VERSION-linux-x64-offline.tar.gz --no-domain --email you@example.com
